What decides where a med spa ranks on Google?
A med spa’s place in Google’s local results depends on relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is the match between your Business Profile and the search. Distance is how far the clinic is from the person searching. Prominence is how well known the business is. More reviews and positive ratings can help a business’s local ranking, according to Google’s Business Profile Help.
The phrase “med spa” is searched on Google about 201,000 times a month in the US, according to Google search volume data for 2026. People spell the term several ways, including “medical spa”, “medspa” and “medi spa”. Some search for a named service plus “near me”. So keep the business category and the list of services on your profile complete and accurate.
Do Google reviews really matter for a med spa?
Yes. Most clients check reviews before they book. In a 2024 survey of 1,195 US med spa clients, nine out of 10 guests said they check online reviews before booking. The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery’s 2025 consumer survey questioned more than 3,500 US consumers. Of those, 94% said rate and review websites affect their decision when selecting a provider. That survey covers cosmetic providers of all kinds.
Reviews also relate to price. In the same med spa survey, 68% of regular clients said they are willing to pay more at a med spa with outstanding reviews. The American Med Spa Association’s 2024 industry report recap puts average spend at $527 per visit. Review counts grow faster at a med spa that asks every client. You can see how the service works.
How many Google reviews does my med spa need?
There is no fixed number. Google does not publish a review count that places a business in the top three map results. The number you need depends on the clinics already ranking in your city.
The number of competitors is rising. The American Med Spa Association’s 2024 industry report recap states that US medical spas grew from 8,899 locations in 2022 to 10,488 in 2023. To find your target, search “med spa near me” and note the review counts of the three clinics shown. Those results can include other clinic types, such as laser clinics. One Flamingo Flow client, Everyday Body, reached #1 for laser in their city. Further client results are on our results page.
What Google rating does a med spa need?
Aim for 4.5 stars or higher. A 2024 survey of 1,195 US med spa clients asked what rating potential clients require. In it, 92% said they will not consider a med spa rated below 4 out of 5 stars. And 62% said they will only book at one rated 4.5 or higher.
A star rating is the average of every rating on your profile. The number of reviews decides how much one low rating moves it. With few reviews, one or two low ratings can drop you below the level most clients require. With many reviews, your rating stays close to its long-run average. Asking every client increases the count.
How recent do med spa reviews need to be?
Recent enough that new clients always see some from the last three months. Of the people questioned in a 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers, 74% look for reviews written in the last three months. Google has published no rule on how old a review can be.
Repeat clients are also the largest group you can ask. The American Med Spa Association’s 2024 industry report recap states that an average of 73% of medical spa patients are repeat patients. Clients from up to the last two years can be sent requests along with new ones. Flamingo Flow sends them in small batches, so reviews arrive over the weeks and not all at once.
Is it okay to ask med spa clients for Google reviews?
Yes. Google permits review requests when every client is asked and nothing is offered in return. Google’s Maps User Contributed Content Policy rules out incentives such as payment, discounts or free goods and services in exchange for a review. That covers loyalty points and account credit. It also rules out discouraging negative reviews or asking only for positive ones.
Privacy and professional rules are separate from Google’s. Your regulator sets the rules on client information and on texting clients, and they differ between states and provinces. Flamingo Flow requests never mention which treatment a client had. The client decides whether to write a review and what to say. How our requests follow Google’s rules is set out on the compliance page.
When should a med spa ask clients for a Google review?
Ask by text after the appointment is finished and paid for. Asking works. According to a 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers, 83% of US consumers who were asked to leave a review went on to leave one.
A text arrives on the client’s own phone, where the review is written, and it can be answered later and in private. Flamingo Flow sends it for you, followed by gentle reminders. You set how many reminders go out, or choose none at all. A med spa’s first reviews typically arrive within 24 hours. Our methodology page describes how requests are timed and sent.
How should a med spa reply to a bad review?
Reply briefly and politely, give a direct contact and continue in private. In a 2024 survey of US med spa clients, 95% said it is important that a business responds to negative reviews. And 93% also expect replies to positive reviews. Flamingo Flow replies to every review automatically in your med spa’s own voice.
The best protection is more reviews. Flamingo Flow helps more of your happy clients leave them. A large number of positive reviews greatly reduces the effect of any one bad review on your rating. Do not offer anything in exchange for changing a review, because Google’s policy prohibits incentives.
What can a med spa do about a fake Google review?
Start by reporting it from your Business Profile. Google removes a review when it breaks Google’s content policy, and that decision belongs to Google alone. A review written by a competitor, or by someone who was never a client, can be reported on that ground. The med spa itself cannot delete any review.
While the report is pending, reply once in general terms and give a contact for the clinic. Buying or writing reviews to offset it is not a remedy. A federal rule applies in the US. Under the Federal Trade Commission’s 2024 final rule, businesses may not create or sell fake reviews. The agency can seek civil penalties against knowing violators. A steady flow of real reviews also makes one fake review matter less.
Do Google reviews matter more than ads for a med spa?
They do different jobs. Ads place the clinic in front of a searcher for a fee per click, and only while the budget is running. Google reviews affect unpaid map ranking and stay on your profile. They are shown next to the clinic’s name in Google Search and Maps, including to people who clicked an ad.
Reviews on other sites do not count toward your Google rating or review count. Each site has to be built up separately, and Google reviews are the ones that appear in Google’s map results. That is the reason Flamingo Flow asks a med spa’s clients for Google reviews. Other clinics face the same choice, so see our page for medical clinics.
Should a med spa ask for reviews in-house or use a service?
Either can work. The real difference is who carries the work week after week. In-house requests depend on your staff remembering to ask after every appointment. Review software automates the sending, but someone still has to set it up, write replies and check it.
Flamingo Flow is a done-for-you service, not software your staff manage. Requests, reminders and replies run automatically, and you have a dedicated account manager. The plans include every feature and differ only by how many clients you ask each month. There are 7 free days at the start and no contract at any point. Compared with the industry standard, businesses on Flamingo Flow collect 4x more reviews.
Do you support multiple locations for a med spa?
Yes. Flamingo Flow supports a med spa with several locations and runs each one separately. Each location has its own Business Profile and its own rating, and reviews for one clinic do not appear on another. A client is asked to review the location they visited.
Reviews are posted on the clinic’s Business Profile, not on a profile for one person. So the clients of everyone on your team add to the same rating and review count. Staff members are unlimited at no extra cost. A group builds a review count and a rating for each clinic, and each clinic is ranked for the searches made near it.
How do I check where my med spa ranks on Google?
Check your position for each of your main searches from the areas your clients come from, not only from the clinic. Distance is one of Google’s three local ranking factors. So the same search can return a different order of med spas in different parts of a city. Spellings such as “medical spa” and “medspa” are separate searches and can be checked separately.
Flamingo Flow shows where the med spa ranks on Google for the searches that matter. You can note the starting position and compare it as reviews are added. A change in position takes longer than the first reviews and has no timeline from Google. Ranking also depends on relevance and on what competing clinics are doing.
What does med spa reputation management include?
Med spa reputation management is the work of keeping four things on your Google Business Profile in good order. They are the star rating, the total number of reviews, how recently clients have reviewed you, and your replies. Google shows these next to the med spa’s name in local search results and on Google Maps. That is the point where a client is comparing clinics.
Flamingo Flow covers three parts of that work. It brings a steady flow of new reviews from real clients, who are asked by text after the appointment. It replies to every review. It also tracks where the med spa ranks for its main searches. Public relations, social media management and removing content from search results sit outside what Flamingo Flow does. More detail is in our guide to online reputation management for local clinics and businesses.
How long does setup take for a med spa?
Setup is one 15-minute call. You give us a photo of you holding up a blank board or paper. We create the med spa’s account and connect your client list or booking software. If you prefer, you can upload a list of clients instead. After the call it is all automated, and your staff do nothing.
Requests then go to new clients and to clients from up to the last two years. The service is in use at 600+ local businesses and has sent 250K+ review requests. If you have a question, or want to start the 7 free days, contact us.
