What is reputation management for a local business?
It is the work of looking after four things on your Google Business Profile. They are the star rating, the number of reviews, how recent the reviews are, and the replies to those reviews. These appear beside the business name in local search results and on Google Maps. A customer sees them before visiting your website or calling.
Most people read reviews before they choose. A 2026 survey of a representative panel of US consumers found that 97% read online reviews for local businesses. For a large company, reputation management can also include press coverage and social media. For a plumber, a dentist, a salon or a restaurant, most of that reputation sits on the Google Business Profile. It is also the part an owner can improve directly.
What does Flamingo Flow do for my reputation?
Flamingo Flow covers three parts of reputation management. It brings in a steady flow of new Google reviews from real customers. It gives every review an automatic reply in your business’s own voice. It tracks where your business ranks on Google for its main searches. See how the service works.
Flamingo Flow does not offer public relations or social media management. It does not remove content from search results. It does not remove negative reviews. No business can delete a review on its Google Business Profile, and Google removes one only when it breaks Google’s content policy. For press handling or the removal of search results, you need a public relations firm or a lawyer.
Is online reputation management the same as review management?
No. Online reputation management is the wider term, and review management is one part of it. Online reputation management can include press coverage, social media accounts, search results for a name, and reviews on many websites. Review management covers the rating, the review count, how recent the reviews are and the replies, with Google first for local businesses.
For most local businesses the two overlap. Customers find them through searches such as “best plumber near me”, or by typing the business name followed by “reviews”. Those results show the Google rating and review count. Flamingo Flow provides the review part: new Google reviews from real customers, a reply to every review and rank tracking. Examples by industry are on our pages for HVAC companies and dentists.
What is Google reputation management?
It is the management of your rating, reviews and replies on your Google Business Profile. Google is the place to start because it is the most used review source in the US. A 2026 survey of US consumers found that 71% use Google to read reviews. The same survey put that share at 83% in 2025, so people use other sources too.
The Google rating and review count also show directly in Google Search and on Google Maps. Reviews on other websites do not count toward them. Splitting requests across several websites sends fewer to each one, which slows the growth of your Google total. That is why Flamingo Flow requests Google reviews. A business with a strong Google profile can add other platforms later.
Does reputation management help SEO and Google ranking?
Yes. Reviews are a stated factor in local search ranking. On this, Google’s guidance on local ranking states that more reviews and positive ratings can help a business’s local ranking. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence, and review count and rating are part of prominence.
Reviews are not the only factor. The distance from the person searching and how well the Business Profile matches the search count too. Google gives no timeline for ranking changes. Flamingo Flow shows where you rank on Google for the searches that matter, so you can follow your position as reviews are added. One client, Massage Addict, went from 6th to 1st on Google in 5 months. See more client results.
How many Google reviews does a small business need?
There is no fixed number. Google does not publish a count that places a business in the top results. The count you need is set by the businesses already ranking in your area. For rating, a small business should aim for four stars or higher. A 2026 survey of US consumers found that 68% will only use a business rated four stars or higher, up from 55% in 2025.
Start with a benchmark. Search for your main service with “near me” or with your city name. Record the rating and review count of the first three businesses shown. The gap between those figures and yours is your target. Our review calculator estimates how many reviews your past and new customers could generate.
How recent do my Google reviews need to be?
Some of your reviews should be from the last three months. A 2026 survey of US consumers found that 74% look for reviews written in the last three months. Google does not publish a rule on how old a review can be.
A high total made up of old reviews meets one test and not the other. Review count and rating are what Google names in its ranking guidance, while recent dates are what customers check. So a reputation needs new reviews each month, not one campaign a year. Flamingo Flow sends requests automatically in small batches to past customers and new ones. First reviews typically arrive within 24 hours.
Does a business need to reply to every review?
Yes. A 2026 survey of US consumers found that 80% say they are likely to use a business that responds to all of its reviews. Replies are public and appear under each review on the Business Profile. People comparing businesses read them, not just the reviewer.
On a positive review, thank the customer and mention the service in general terms. On a negative review, acknowledge the issue, state what has been offered and give a direct contact. Do not dispute the customer’s opinion and do not post personal details. Replying takes time, because each review needs its own reply. Flamingo Flow replies to every review automatically in your business’s own voice.
Is it allowed to ask customers for Google reviews?
Yes. Asking is allowed, as long as the request follows Google’s rules. Google’s review policy prohibits offering incentives such as payment, discounts or free goods and services in exchange for a review. The same policy prohibits discouraging negative reviews or asking only happy customers for reviews.
Two common practices break those rules. The first is a reward for a review, such as a discount, a gift card or an entry in a prize draw. The second is review gating. That is when customers are surveyed first and only those who give a high score are sent to Google. Google can remove reviews collected in breach of its policy. Flamingo Flow sends every customer the same request and offers no rewards. Our compliance page describes this in more detail.
How do I fix a low Google rating?
You fix a low rating by earning new genuine reviews and replying to the negative ones, not by removing them. A Google rating is an average of all the ratings on the profile. Each new review from a real customer moves that average.
This is where volume helps your reputation. Our system helps more of your happy customers leave reviews. With a lot of positive reviews on your profile, one negative review barely changes your overall rating. Every review also gets a reply. Keep asking each month, because a 2026 survey of US consumers found that 74% look for reviews written in the last three months. Past customers who were never asked can get a request as well.
Can a bad or fake review be removed from Google?
A business cannot delete a review from its own profile. Google removes a review only when it breaks Google’s content policy, not because the business disagrees with it. A review that is spam, abusive or from someone who was never a customer can be reported from the Business Profile. Google decides the outcome.
Reply while a report is pending. State that you have no record of the person as a customer and invite them to contact you. Do not pay a service that promises to delete genuine negative reviews, and do not buy positive reviews to outweigh them. US law backs this up: the Federal Trade Commission’s 2024 final rule bans businesses from creating or selling fake reviews. Knowing violators risk civil penalties sought by the agency.
Is reputation management software or a service better?
It depends on who will do the work. Reputation management software provides the tools to send review requests and write replies. Someone in the business still has to set it up and operate it. A done-for-you service carries out those tasks for the business.
Flamingo Flow is software that is set up and run for you. Setup is one 15-minute call. You provide a photo of you holding up a blank board or paper, and we connect your customer list or the software you already use. After that, requests and replies are automatic and your staff do nothing. Gentle reminders go out too, and you choose how many, or none at all. The service produces 4x more reviews than the industry standard and has sent 250K+ review requests.
How much does reputation management cost?
The cost of reputation management depends on what the service covers. Some services send review requests only. Others add public relations and social media management. Compare what each one includes before comparing prices. Check also whether there is a contract term and whether features or staff members are charged separately.
Flamingo Flow plans differ only by how many customers you ask each month. Every plan includes every feature. That means review requests by personal text, gentle reminders, an automatic reply to every review, rank tracking, unlimited staff members and a dedicated account manager. There is no contract, and the first 7 days of reputation management are free. See the plans for current pricing.
How does multi-location reputation management work?
Each location is managed separately. Every location has its own Google Business Profile, with its own rating, review count and replies. Reviews for one location do not count toward another. Local results depend on distance, so a customer searching near one branch sees that branch’s profile.
Multi-location reputation management means running the same process at every location and measuring each one on its own figures. Flamingo Flow supports several locations, each run separately. One client, a 17-location physiotherapy clinic group, reached the top 3 on Google in 10 of its locations. Another client, Absolute Moving, launched 2 new locations into the top 3 on Google Maps. To discuss a group of locations, contact us.
