Why Google Reviews Matter for Restaurants.

“Food near me” is one of the most searched phrases on Google in the United States. It gets about 68 million searches a month, according to search volume data for 2025. In a 2024 report based on a survey of 1,500 US diners, 64% said they run a Google search before visiting a restaurant.

Flamingo Flow texts your guests a personal request for a Google review. We also answer every review in your restaurant’s voice. It works when you have guests’ phone numbers from reservations, online orders, catering, loyalty programs or a waitlist. It cannot reach walk-in guests who leave no phone number. Setup is one 15-minute call.

Reviews About Food Quality Affect the Choice.

A 2024 survey of 1,000 US consumers asked diners about reviews. In it, 80% said they are more likely to visit a restaurant with positive reviews about food quality and taste. Another 63% said they would avoid a restaurant with poor food quality reviews.

It Works Where You Have Guests’ Phone Numbers.

We text guests from your reservations, online orders, catering, loyalty program or waitlist. Walk-in guests who leave no phone number cannot be reached this way.

When to Ask for the Review.

Ask after the meal or order is done. That means after the visit, after the food is delivered or picked up, or after the catering event. We send each guest a personal text with a photo of you holding a sign with their name on it. It goes out automatically, with gentle reminders. It reaches only the guests whose phone numbers you have.

Google Reviews for Restaurants: What Owners Ask.

How does Google decide which restaurant shows up first?

Google ranks local results mainly on three things. They are how well your profile matches the search, how far the restaurant is from the searcher, and how well known it is. Google’s Business Profile Help says more reviews and positive ratings can help a business’s local ranking. Google also says complete and accurate profile information makes a business easier to match to searches. For a restaurant, that means the category, cuisine, opening hours and menu.

“Food near me” gets about 68 million searches a month in the United States, according to search volume data for 2025. Google Maps also lets people filter restaurants by star rating, which hides the ones below the rating they pick. You cannot change how far you are from the person searching. Your reviews and your profile are what you can work on.

Do Google reviews really matter for my restaurant?

Yes. Good reviews about food quality and taste make 80% of diners more likely to visit, according to a 2024 survey of 1,000 US consumers. In the same survey, 63% said they would avoid a restaurant with poor food quality reviews.

Bad reviews keep diners away too. A 2025 report based on a survey of 1,500 US diners found that 41% say bad online reviews would deter them from visiting a restaurant. That includes bad Google reviews. Our page on how Flamingo Flow works shows how we collect reviews from your restaurant’s guests.

Will Flamingo Flow work for my restaurant?

Yes, if you have your guests’ phone numbers. Flamingo Flow asks for reviews by text. It works for guests from table reservations, online orders, catering orders, loyalty programs and waitlist sign-ups.

It cannot text a guest who walks in, pays and leaves without giving a phone number. For those guests, you can ask in person or put out a QR code that opens your Google review page. A restaurant with no guest phone numbers at all is not a fit. Businesses that run on bookings, such as hair salons, have a number for every customer. Most restaurants have numbers for only some guests. Follow the text message rules that apply to your restaurant. Our compliance page sets out the standards we follow.

How many Google reviews does my restaurant need?

Google gives no set number. Look at the restaurants that show up on the map for your main searches in your neighbourhood. Check how many reviews they have, their ratings and how new their latest reviews are. Those are the numbers to beat.

For your star rating, four or higher is the goal. A 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers found that 68% of people only use businesses rated four stars or higher. That is up from 55% in 2025. Flamingo Flow shows where your restaurant ranks for those searches. Try our review calculator to see how many reviews your restaurant’s past and new guests could bring in.

How recent do my restaurant’s reviews need to be?

Diners should find reviews from the last three months. According to a 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers, 74% of people look for reviews no older than three months. Google has not said that the age of reviews affects ranking. What is known is that people reading your profile look for new ones.

New reviews matter for a restaurant because menus, prices, staff and hours change. An old review describes the restaurant as it was. Diners check before they go. In a 2024 report based on a survey of 1,500 US diners, 85% said they look at the menu online before picking a new restaurant. Your restaurant’s guests from up to the last two years can be asked too, along with new ones. Requests go out in small batches, so your restaurant’s reviews keep coming in steadily.

When is the best time to ask restaurant guests for a review?

Ask soon after the meal, order or event is done. For a reservation, that is after the visit. For an online order, it is after the food is delivered or picked up. For catering, it is after the event. That is the same point at which event rental companies ask.

Asking works. In a 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers, 83% of the people who were asked for a review went on to leave one. We send the text for you, automatically, so nobody at the restaurant has to remember to ask during a shift.

How should my restaurant ask for Google reviews?

A text is the easiest way for guests whose phone numbers you have. We send each guest a personal text with a photo of you holding a sign with their name on it. Gentle reminders follow. You choose how many reminders a guest gets, or none at all.

For walk-in guests, you can ask in person or use a QR code. Your Google Business Profile gives you a review link and a QR code to share with guests. You can print the code on tables or receipts so any guest can scan it.

Is it okay to ask restaurant guests for Google reviews?

Yes. Google’s own help pages say businesses can ask customers for reviews. What Google’s Maps User Contributed Content Policy does not allow is a reward for a review. That covers payment, discounts and free goods or services. A free dessert, a drink, loyalty points or a prize draw entry all count.

The policy also does not allow asking only happy guests, and owners and staff may not review their own restaurant. Google can remove reviews that break these rules and can restrict your Business Profile. Fake reviews are against United States law as well: the Federal Trade Commission’s 2024 final rule bans creating or selling them. Flamingo Flow never offers a guest anything for a review.

Should my restaurant focus on Google reviews or other review sites?

Put Google first. Google is the most used review source in the United States. A 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers found that 71% of consumers use it to read reviews, down from 83% in 2025.

Google reviews are also the ones shown when someone searches “restaurants near me”. In a 2024 report based on a survey of 1,500 US diners, 64% said they Google a restaurant before visiting. That search shows your Google rating and review count. Reviews on other sites do not add to either one. Flamingo Flow asks guests for a Google review and posts a reply to each one on your profile.

Can I get a fake review of my restaurant removed?

You can report it to Google, but you cannot remove it yourself. Google’s policy says a review must be about a real experience. A review from someone who never ate at or ordered from your restaurant can be reported from your Business Profile. Google also has a tool for checking on a report and appealing a decision.

Google removes reviews that break its rules. It does not remove opinions, so a harsh review from a real guest usually stays. Post a short, factual reply while Google looks at your report. More good reviews help as well. Flamingo Flow helps more of your happy guests leave reviews, so one unfair review counts for less.

How do I reply to a bad restaurant review?

Keep it short and polite, and do not argue. Thank the guest, name the problem they raised and say what you have done about it. Give them a way to reach you directly.

Replies matter to the people reading. A 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers asked about them. In it, 42% said they are unlikely to use a business that never replies to its reviews. With Flamingo Flow, every review gets an automatic reply in your restaurant’s voice. Our texts also help more of your restaurant’s happy guests leave reviews. The more good reviews your restaurant has, the less one bad review moves your overall rating.

Are Google reviews or ads better for my restaurant?

You do not have to pick one, because reviews make ads work better. An ad buys you a spot for as long as you pay for it. Reviews help your free map listing and stay on your profile after an ad ends. Google’s Business Profile Help says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking.

A guest who sees your ad can still look you up before visiting. A 2024 report based on a survey of 1,500 US diners found that 64% of diners run a Google search before visiting a restaurant. That search shows your rating and review count. Each of the Flamingo Flow plans gives your restaurant every feature. The plans differ only by how many guests your restaurant asks each month. There is no contract, and your restaurant’s first 7 days are free.

Should my restaurant ask for reviews itself or use a service?

The real question is who in the restaurant does the work each week. If you ask in person, it depends on your staff remembering during a busy shift. Review software sends the texts, but someone still has to set it up, keep the guest list up to date and write the replies.

Flamingo Flow does all of it for your restaurant. We set it up once, send the requests and reply to every review. You get a dedicated account manager, and you can see where your restaurant ranks on Google. Flamingo Flow generates 4x more reviews than the industry standard. It is used by 600+ local businesses and has sent 250K+ review requests.

What is restaurant reputation management?

Restaurant reputation management means looking after four things on your Google Business Profile. They are your star rating, your number of reviews, how new your latest reviews are, and your replies. Google shows them beside your restaurant’s name in local search results and on Google Maps. That is where diners look before they book, order or walk over.

Flamingo Flow covers three parts of this. We bring in a steady flow of new reviews from real guests whose phone numbers you have. We reply to every review. We track where your restaurant ranks for its main searches. We do not do public relations, social media management or removal of content from search results. To learn more, read how reputation management works for local businesses.

How long does it take to get more restaurant reviews?

A restaurant’s first reviews typically arrive within 24 hours of setup. Setup is one 15-minute call. On the call we set up your account and connect your guest list or the reservation or ordering software you already use. The only thing your restaurant sends us is a photo of you holding up a blank board or paper.

After that it is all automated, and your restaurant staff do nothing. Your restaurant’s new guests are asked, along with guests from up to the last two years. If you have more than one restaurant, we run each location separately. Google gives each location its own profile, rating and reviews. To book your setup call, contact us.
