Google Reviews for Physiotherapy Clinics: What Owners Ask.
How does Google decide which physio clinics show up first?
Google ranks local clinics on relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is how well your Business Profile matches the words searched, such as “physiotherapy”. Distance is how far your clinic is from the searcher. Prominence is how well known the clinic is, and it includes reviews. On that point, Google’s local ranking guidance states that more reviews and positive ratings can help a business’s local ranking.
People search under two names. In Canada it is “physiotherapy”, and in the United States it is “physical therapy”. Google search volume data for 2026 shows about 550,000 US searches a month for “physical therapy”. Use the term people use where you work in your profile’s category, services and description. A clinic cannot change where the searcher is. It can keep its profile accurate and its review count growing. Our done-for-you review service handles the review side.
Do Google reviews matter if my patients come from referrals?
Yes. More patients now choose a clinic without a referral. The American Physical Therapy Association’s 2022 consumer research report is based on a 2021 US survey. In it, 33% of people who had used physical therapy said they would go directly to a physical therapist without a referral. That was up from 23% in 2016.
Referred patients can look a clinic up too. A peer-reviewed study published in 2025 covered 786 first-time patients at one US university physical therapy clinic. Forty-six percent said they visited the clinic’s website before their first visit. The data is from a single clinic, collected from 2017 to 2020, so it is not a national figure. When a referral does not name a clinic, the patient picks one from Google’s map results.
Do patients read Google reviews before choosing a physiotherapist?
Yes, most do. A 2025 survey of US patients found that 84% check online reviews before selecting a new provider. That figure covers all healthcare providers, and no survey measures it for physiotherapy alone.
Patients also have more clinicians to choose from. The Canadian Institute for Health Information reports that 21,683 physiotherapists were employed in direct patient care in Canada in 2024. That was up 4.9% in a year. Google lists nearby clinics together and shows each one’s star rating and review count. Those two numbers, and the newest reviews, are what a patient compares before opening any clinic’s website.
How many Google reviews does a physio clinic need?
There is no fixed number of reviews for a clinic. For your rating, aim for 4.0 stars or higher. In a 2026 survey of 992 US adults, 75% named 4.0 or higher as the lowest rating they would accept before booking. And 44% would not go below 4.5. The figures are for all healthcare providers, not physio clinics only.
Google does not publish a review count that places a clinic in the map results. What counts is how many reviews the clinics near you have. Look at the clinics listed for your main searches. Aim to match their review counts, then pass them, while keeping your rating high. Flamingo Flow shows where you rank on Google for those searches, and our results page lists client outcomes.
How recent should a physio clinic’s Google reviews be?
Aim to always have reviews from the last three months. Of the people in a 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers, 74% look for reviews written in that period. The survey covers all local businesses, not healthcare only.
Patients come for several weeks of visits, so a clinic has new people to ask all year. We send the clinic’s requests in small batches, so reviews arrive every week and not in one group. Patients from up to the last two years can get a request as well. Each batch draws on the patient list or booking software connected at setup.
When should a physio clinic ask a patient for a review?
Ask each patient once, at the same fixed point for everyone. A 2024 survey of 1,141 US consumers found that 40% prefer healthcare providers to ask within three days to a week of the visit.
Two points are common: after the first completed visit, or after the last booked one. Either works, as long as the same point is used for every patient. Flamingo Flow sends the request by text from your patient list or booking software, so nobody at the clinic has to remember. You decide how many gentle reminders a patient gets after it, or none at all.
Should we ask patients in person or send a text?
Send a text. A request made in person only reaches the patients someone remembers to ask, and a text goes to every patient. Asking works: a 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers found that 83% of people asked to leave a review went on to leave one. That survey looked at local businesses in general.
A physio patient gets a personal text with a photo of you holding a sign with their name on it. The message is a greeting and a request for a Google review. It never mentions a condition, a treatment or anything else clinical, and it goes out automatically.
Is it okay to ask physiotherapy patients for Google reviews?
Yes. Google allows a physio clinic to ask its patients for reviews. It prohibits rewards and selective asking. Google’s Maps User Contributed Content Policy prohibits incentives such as payment, discounts or free goods and services in exchange for a review. For a clinic, it also prohibits fake reviews, discouraging negative reviews, and asking only happy patients.
Flamingo Flow sends every patient of the clinic the same request, with nothing offered in return. How a clinic’s requests follow these rules is on our compliance page. Google’s policy is separate from the professional rules for physiotherapists. Privacy law and your college’s or licensing board’s rules on advertising and testimonials also apply to a physio clinic. This physiotherapy page is not legal advice, so follow your regulator’s rules.
How should a physio clinic reply to a bad review?
Reply to every review, and keep the reply short and general. Thank the person for the feedback and give a phone number or email for follow-up. Keep health details out of a public reply. In a 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers, 80% called themselves likely to use a business that responds to all of its reviews.
A bad review of a clinic counts for less when there are many good ones. Flamingo Flow makes it easy for more of your happy patients to leave a review. The more positive reviews you have, the less any single negative review moves your overall rating. Every review also gets an automatic reply in your clinic’s voice, so your team writes nothing.
Can a physio clinic get a fake Google review removed?
Only Google can remove a review of your clinic. A clinic can report a fake one through its Business Profile and say which policy it breaks. Google’s content policy covers fake engagement and reviews that are not based on a real experience. Google will not remove a review just because a clinic disagrees with it.
First check the name against your patient records. The name on the review may differ from the name on file. Then report it. US law covers fake reviews as well. The Federal Trade Commission’s 2024 final rule bans any business, clinics included, from creating or selling fake reviews. The agency can seek civil penalties against knowing violators of that rule. Removal is not guaranteed, so keep real reviews coming in.
Should a physio clinic pay for ads or get more reviews?
They do different jobs. An ad buys a spot at the top of the results for as long as the budget lasts. Reviews help a clinic’s place in the unpaid map results. They are still on your profile when a campaign has finished.
Reviews also shape what an ad visitor sees. Your star rating and review count show on the profile a person can open after clicking an ad. A 2025 survey of US patients found that 84% check online reviews before selecting a new provider. That figure is for healthcare providers in general, not physiotherapy on its own. Our pricing page sets out the plans. Every one includes every feature, and they differ only by how many patients you ask each month.
Should a physio clinic ask for reviews itself or use a service?
For a clinic, it comes down to who does the work each week. Asking in person is free, but it depends on someone remembering. Review software sends the message, but a member of staff still has to set it up, update the patient list and write the replies.
With Flamingo Flow, that work is done for the clinic. We connect the clinic’s patient list or the booking software you already use. Each physio patient gets a personal text, and every review gets a reply. The service is in use at 600+ local businesses, has delivered 250K+ review requests and produces 4x more reviews than the industry standard. The same process applies to chiropractic clinics and massage therapists.
Do you support physio clinics with multiple locations?
Yes. Each location is run separately. Every clinic location has its own Google Business Profile, its own reviews and its own ranking for nearby searches. A review for one clinic location does not count for another.
Patients are asked to review the location they attended. Unlimited staff members are included at no extra cost, and every account has a dedicated account manager. A 17-location physiotherapy clinic group reached the top 3 on Google in 10 of its locations. Results vary with the competition around each clinic. To discuss a multi-location setup, contact us.
What is physiotherapy reputation management?
Physiotherapy reputation management is the routine work of looking after how a clinic appears on Google. Four things show beside the clinic’s name in local search results and on Google Maps. They are its star rating, its number of reviews, the dates of the latest reviews, and the clinic’s replies.
Flamingo Flow takes on that routine. Real patients are asked for a review by text, which produces a steady flow of new reviews. Every review of the clinic is given a reply. The clinic can follow where it ranks, whether people type “physiotherapy” or “physical therapy near me”. It does not do public relations, manage social media accounts or remove content from search results. More background is on our page about local business reputation management.
How long does setup take for a physio clinic?
One 15-minute call. Before we start, send us a photo of you holding up a blank board or paper. We set up the clinic’s account and connect your patient list or booking software. From then on the clinic’s requests are automated, and your staff do nothing.
The clinic’s requests go to new patients and to patients from up to the last two years. A physio clinic’s first reviews typically arrive within 24 hours. A change in ranking takes longer and depends on the competition around you, and Google publishes no timeline. You can see where the clinic ranks on Google for the searches that matter. There is no contract, and a clinic’s first 7 days are free.
